How is this for a start to a feature article/opinion piece?

The release of Bill Henson’s latest exhibition, featuring nude children, has spiked many controversial issues. One of the main problems that have arose is whether parents should have the right to permit their children to be publicly displayed au naturel. In other words: do parents prerogative to allow their children to be exploited and humiliated in front of millions? Please help me improve it in anyway i can. thank you!

  1. This is an excellent introduction. I'll be surprised if you don't get full marks (if you continue to write in this style). Keep it up. Well done.
  2. Hi Maniac, you have the makings of a good article however, there are a few grammatical errors. You are writing an opinion piece so your job here is to persuade or position the reader so that they agree with you. To do this you need to use persuasive devices, these include; emotive language(language that illicits emotion), rhetorical Q's, sarcasm, poetic devices such as alliteration and assonance (Henson's hideous photos are horrible, or art articulates arrogant attitude of artist) the repetition here stands out and high lights your point. If you live in Melbourne you should read some Andrew Bolt articles in the Herald Sun one in particular is 'Booze Blast a Bit Rich' you should be able to find it on the Herald Sun website. I have rewritten your intro The release of Bill Henson’s latest exhibition, featuring nude children, has sparked many debates in relation to the exploitation of children in the name of art. One of the main issues that has arisen is whether parents have the right to permit their children to be publicly displayed au naturel. In other words: is it the parents prerogative to allow their children to be exploited and humiliated in front of millions? Having said this however, is a child mature enough to make this decision?... From here you might argue that children are not able to make this decision, BUT what type of parent would expose their child to this type of exploitation... GOOD LUCK
