Is it time to ban The Hurricane for life? Alex Higgins has too often attacked officials and referees. It is mostly verbal but other times it is physical as was his latest attack on a referee. These prima donnas need to be held in check but snooker administrators in the past have acted as lily livered cowards and turned a blind eye towards players like Higgins. Maybe another scandal is what snooker needs but make it involve someone rather than an old hasbeen nearing pension age. If players like Jimmy White keep inviting bad news to exhibition matches then put a heavy penalty on him. why should Ronnie be taken to task. Is he a soft touch who would take it whereas Higgy would have a tank full and a snort and get stuck in with his full six stones. Do you ever think that you should have tried drugs. And think that you? have missed out something in life? I remember being invited to dinner by some friends and really enjoyed the chicken pie. However, I could not understand why everyone was laughing at me. I was making a real exhibition of myself and could not stop laughing and rolling on the floor. Perilous Times and Decaying Morality * * UK Sex trade moves its modern-day slaves into the suburbs* By David Harrison, Sunday Telegraph Last Updated: 12:25am GMT 18/02/2007 Criminal gangs are moving sex slaves out of brothels and into private houses in an attempt to take the trade "underground" and avoid discovery by the police. Senior officers are finding an "alarming" number of young women, mostly east Europeans aged 18 to 25, held captive in privately owned flats and houses and forced to have sex with up to 30 "clients" a day. The gangs are moving hundreds of women out of the "overt" sex industry - massage parlours and other brothels - and into the "covert" industry, because it is more lucrative, to increase their control over the victims, and to make it more difficult for police to find them. Graeme Maxwell, Yorkshire police's deputy chief constable and programme director for the UK Human Trafficking Centre, said: "The traffickers and pimps are taking the girls to rented flats and houses in areas all over the UK where there is a transient population and neighbours don't really notice when people move in and out." Mr Maxwell said the gangs were "ruthless criminals determined to protect their income from exploiting and abusing young women". The key to finding the criminals and rescuing the women was "local intelligence", he said. Beat officers were working to win the trust of communities and give people the confidence to inform police if they suspected girls were being held against their will. The trafficked women, most of whom are lured to Britain with false promises of jobs as waitresses or au pairs and are routinely beaten and raped, had been found in rented homes in city centres, including Birmingham, London and Sheffield, but also in "leafy suburbs". D S Steve Titterton, the trafficking centre's tactical adviser, said: "We are finding girls being kept in 'studentland' and other 'bedsit' areas but also in buy-to-let accommodation in smart residential areas where the neighbours are used to a high turnover of tenants." One Ukrainian woman told The Sunday Telegraph last week that she was duped into coming to Britain on the promise of a job selling ice cream in London. Instead Tatanya, 25, was taken to a flat in a north London suburb where she was forced to work as a prostitute from 10am to 10pm every day and to hand over all of the money to two Albanians, a man and a woman, towards the £20,000 "cost" of bringing her to England. Tatanya escaped by jumping from a second-floor window. She went to the police and, despite death threats to her family in Ukraine, gave evidence that helped to convict her captors who were jailed for a total of 25 years. Police believe the traffickers are going "underground", in part as a response to Operation Pentameter, a three-month police crackdown last year in which 232 suspected traffickers were arrested and 84 women rescued in nationwide raids on brothels. How long does it typically take sucessful artists to establish themselves? I don't mean freaks of nature who are supposed to be the latest great thing at 21. For normal artists, how long is it supposed to take? I feel like I've been struggling for a long time, well in my 20's I showed my paintings in cafes while getting sidetracked by other things because I thought I should have a more normal career, then in the last eight years I moved to a community where there are more opportunities for artists and really focused on my painting more. I've become somewhat of a fixture in local arts festivals and show regularly in certain places, like a gift store- yeah big deal. I've only had a few solo exhibitions and zero exhibitions in publicly funded galleries, in fact I'm ready to give up on them. At 38 I always thought I would have a more established career and maybe be making a living at it by now. I do have profits but it's just peanuts really. im hanging by a thread. i dont know what to do about this indian culture.? im 22. yr old girl. my dad died when i was 14. since then i developed anxiety disoeder. my family doenst know, except my sister in law, but she doent tkae me seriously. and when things go wrong i panic, stress, cant sleep, sometimes comfort eat, drink etc i live at home with my mother. my older sis is married and lives an hr away and bro moved to canada 2yrs ago. i just recently finished uni with an art degree.in the 1st and 2nd yer i didnt go out much. i wasnt allowed to go out too much, maybe a once a month and sometimes zero times a month. in the 3rd year i went out a little more. i wanted to go out before i regretted it. and therefore i made a little stand for my right. after all my sis and bro used to go out all the time. but sometimes i had to,i had to set up my work for exhibition, so i stayed late in studios, then we had two private view nights and an after party. ofcouse i wanted to go and be there. its what i had worked for. and ina heated argument my sis stold me That her husband and my brother where having a conversation about me and throught that because i have been ‘going out a lot’ because I have a ‘white bf.’. But I don’t. and my bro was thinking at the time to get some one to spy on me, see what I get up to. This is killing me. im so paranoid and unhappy. This all made more sense to me when, my sis told a lot of people in a wedding that we were looking for an Indian boy to get me married to. They think I want to marry a white guy. I locked my mother in, what should I do? My mother does not live with my father, and I rarely see her. My mother is all about money, status, nice clothes, vacations, cocktails, art. I don't have a lot of money, and I tried so hard to buy all these things and please her! She said she had only called in to keep me quiet. She was going to some art gallery, some opening, some exhibition. She’d be late. She tried to push past me. So, I couldn’t take it any more. I locked the door and threw the key out the window. Is this offensive or is it just my imagination? OK, I been working in this project for 1 month with this architect for an important exhibition that starts next week. She is my age (20's). Steve Dalkowski, fastest pitcher of all time I first heard of Steve Dalkowski a couple years ago from a dad on my baseball team, and the knucklehead who claims he could throw 120 mph reminded me of the story I found a couple years ago about him, so enjoy and tell me what you think Steve is the guy "Nuke LaLoosh" in the movie Bull Durham was based on. Former big-league manager Gene Mauch selected the hardest throwing pitchers he ever saw and the list included some of the usual suspects: Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens and Bob Feller. However, at No. 5 on that list was a name that made probably made many people go, "Huh?": Steve Dalkowski. Dalkowski gained legendary status with a fastball that many who saw him pitch believe was 110 mph. The only thing that kept Dalkowski from ever reaching the majors was that he couldn't throw his fastball with any sort of control -- in 1960, he set a California League record with 262 walks in 170 innings. He also recorded 262 strikeouts. For his minor league career, Delkowski had 1,396 strikeouts and 1,354 walks in 995 innings. Those who saw Dalkowski pitch believe he was the hardest thrower in baseball history. In a Newsday article from 1979, several baseball men discussed Dalkowski's and his blazing fastball. "He was unbelievable," said former Orioles manager Earl Weaver. "He threw a lot faster than (Nolan) Ryan. It's hard to believe but he did." Yankees outfielder Paul Blair faced hard-throwers such as Sandy Koufax and Ryan but still remembers facing Dalkowski in spring training. "He threw the hardest I ever saw. He was also the wildest I ever saw." Dalkowski's wildness frightened even the bravest of hitters. Ted Williams faced Dalkowski once in a spring training game and that was enough. "Fastest ever," said Williams. "I never want to face him again." Here a just a few examples of how Dalkowski gained legendary status: One night at Kingsport, Dalkowski threw a pitch that tore off part of a batter's ear. "It made me so scared, I didn't even want to look at it," said Dalkowski. Many people believe after this incident Dalkowski feared one of errant pitches would kill someone and that only contributed more to his wildness. Dalkowski won a $5 bet with teammate Herman Starrette, who said Dalkowski couldn't throw a baseball through a wall. Dalkowski warmed up and then moved 15 feet away from the wooden outfield fence. His first pitch went right through the boards. In one minor league game, Dalkowski threw three pitches that penetrated the backstop and sent fans scattering. In a high school game, Dalkowski threw a no-hit, no-run game with 18 strikeouts and 18 walks. In an Eastern League game, Dalkowski struck out 27 and walked 16 while throwing 283 pitches. In another game, he was pulled in the second inning after throwing 120 pitches. At Aberdeen in the Northern League, Dalkowski threw a one-hitter and lost 9-8. In 1960 at Class A Stockton, Dalkowski threw a pitch that broke an umpire's mask in three places, knocking him 18 feet back and sending him to a hospital for three days with a concussion. In 1959, Dalkowski set a Northern League record with 21 strikeouts in a game. In 1960 at Stockton on the California League, Dalkowski struck out 19 and limited Reno to four hits but walked nine and lost 8-3. The Orioles tried a variety of things to help Dalkowski find the strike zone with little success. However, Earl Weaver, who was managing in the Orioles' farm system, helped build Dalkowski's confidence. In one stretch for Elmira in 1962, Weaver said Dalkowski had a 52-inning stretch where he struck out 104, walked only 11 and allowed one earned run. The following spring, Dalkowski seemed poised to make the Orioles club. However, his career was ended on a throw to first. In an exhibition game against the Yankees, Dalkowski fielded a bunt from pitcher Jim Bouton. Dalkwoski threw to first and as he did, felt something pop in his arm. He missed most of the season and when he returned his fastball had leveled off to 90 mph. He was released by the Orioles organization and was out of organized baseball by 1966. Dalkowski became a migrant farm worker after retiring. Dalkowski was a heavy drinker during his playing days and his drinking continued to escalate after his baseball career was over. In an article in The Sporting News from June 30, 1979, Cal Ripken Sr. said, "Dalkowski could do some drinking. He just couldn't stop. He liked to stay out, drink and have some fun. He'd always be borrowing money to but booze and was broke from payday to payday." The Association of Professional Ballplayers in America, an organization formed in the early 1920s to take care of former baseball people who became ill or indigent, tired to help Dalkowski. Chuck Stevens, director of the APBA, said, "Dalkowski had a 14-foot medical sheet. They tell me he had a 35 common drunk arrests in every town in America. It's a very sad story. But, we had him absolutely dry for three months. We put him in an alcoholic rehabilitation center and found him a job. For three months, Steve Dalkowski was a productive citizen." However a few months later, Dalkowski was drinking again and the APBA stopped its assistance because the money they gave Dalkowski was being used to buy liquor. Dalkowski's failing health prevented him from working. In the late-1980s, Dalkowski was living in a small apartment in southern California and almost broke. His whereabouts today are unknown.

A sensitive colleague might like me. I just want to be friends with him. What to do? My colleague is a male, single, in his 50s. I'm in my late 20s. He's an expat in my office, liked by other colleagues for his nice & culturally-sensitive attitude. Sometimes he's even more sensitive than the locals. Bad news is he recently got mild stroke & has been feeling down since. He often thinks that the stroke makes him useless professionally and people are trying to kick him away. I don't see that happening and I think it's just in his mind. Anyway, as a colleague/friend, since the stroke, I've been offering some companies when I could. I listen to his stories. We went to art exhibitions, movies, dinners, etc. I just don't want him to feel negative most of the time. However, lately I sense that he might misunderstood me. He becomes possesive. Here is one that might be of interest .? A van is parked in front of the property for several hours along the roadside. Windows are covered with material. Was I utterly wrong and caused enough damage to cause me (deserve) so much mental distress and financial hardship? Was the punishment befitting the crime, if indeed a crime was committed? After that (initial revelation), he spent three years calling people to Allaah in secret. He was also one of the first people to become Muslim, one of the greatest scholars, bravest warriors, prominent ascetics and preachers. He was one of those who compiled the Qur’aan and showed it to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Fifthly: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was guided by the teachings of the Qur’aan, indeed his whole attitude was the Qur’aan as the Mother of the Believers ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said. The way our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was in Islam was the same as the way he had been before, but Allaah perfected his character and made it more beautiful. When the first revelation came, [his wife] Khadeejah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said, listing his attributes: “No, by Allaah, Allaah would never let you down. Andalusia [in Spain] was conquered by Taariq ibn Ziyaad in 92 AH/711 CE, and the conquests in western Europe continued until they reached southeastern France in 114 AH. 2 – People coming from North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia to look for work and a better future. 3 – Westerners bringing some people from other countries, such as the Germans bringing Turks, to work in their country. 4 – The presence of Muslim daa’iyahs (callers, “missionaries”) in those countries. 5 – The conquests of the Ottoman state of part of Europe. 6 – The conversion of some indigenous Europeans to Islam, who then began to propagate Islam. 7 – Trade links between Muslims and Europe. 8 – Conversion of some Europeans to Islam. 9 – Changes in the European intellectual approaches. 10 – Rejection of the church myths which contradict revelation and the adoption of empirical knowledge whose foundation was laid by the Muslims. 11 – Participation of Muslim communities in the development of research, inventions and companies in Europe, through the work of qualified Muslim professionals, plus the increase in the number of Muslim communities in Europe, which resulted in the increase in the number of mosques, schools and Islamic centers. Called "Zuerst die Fuesse," (Feet First), it wears a green loin cloth and is nailed through the hands and the feet in the manner of Jesus Christ. Its green tongue hangs out of its mouth. What sort of fine would I expect to get for an "exhibition of speed" ticket? I was given the ticket for doing doughnuts late at night in LA. Background: Our department is an engineering department has 5 permanent staff include me, and one contractor, I’m the youngest (just came out university) and only female, the other 4 all like 35-50+ years old. The story: there was an exhibition went on today, my department manager asked everyone in my department include the contractor to go, but he didn’t mention anything to me, later on the day, the main boss came to ask me if I enjoyed the exhibition, I was like what? I told him I didn’t even know about it, he looked very surprised! Although I only worked there 6 months, I got very good feedback from our clients, but why my department manager hates me? Iam working for a exhibition company- and worked under visit visa for 6 months and visa was stamped 3 months later. I could not leave this company, as i did not have any proof of staying or working.
